Laurent Schuster Gelmetti es un productor, escritor y compositor italo-francés, originario de Árdenas, Francia. Es más conocido por su alias de producción Laurent Newfield. Él fue uno de los fundadores de Delta Music Industry, junto con Clara Moroni y Andrea Leonardi; y el de Akyr Music. También ha formado parte de grupos tales como Newfield & Sinclaire y Newfield-Moroni-Sinclaire.
Los primeros pasos de Gelmetti en la producción musical fue en Time Records, donde fue el segundo ingeniero de sonido, detrás de Sandro Oliva; para luego ser el principal tras de que Oliva se fuera de Time. A su vez de su trabajo como ingeniero de sonido, se convirtió en el asistente de Mauro Farina, el productor principal de Time en esa época, y también trabajó en otros proyectos para sellos de terceros, por ejemplo Flea Records, Radiorama, y Asia Records. Es más, Faria fue quién le daría a Laurent su famoso apodo "Laurent Newfield", el cuál viene de su estilo para tocar la guitarra al estilo de Mike Oldfield.
Tras un acuerdo entre el fundador de Time, Giacomo Maiolini, y Farina en torno a una posible venta de Time Records, Gelmetti se convirtió en el productor principal del sello después de que Clara Moroni, su pareja en ese momento, convenciese a Maiolini para que le permitiese tener su propio estudio para producir. De ahí salieron sus primeras producciones, tales como '"Bang Bang" de Frank Torpedo, "Bad Girl" de Linda Ross, y "Black Power" de Maio & Co.
Laurent siguió produciendo Eurobeat para Time hasta mediados de 1994, cuando se tomaría un descanso; por lo que Sergio Dall'Ora tomaría su lugar como productor. En 1995, Él y Clara se toparían con, en ese entonces, productor independiente Andrea Leonardi; con el cuál hablaron sobre crear su propio sello discográfico debido a lo infelices que eran por la paga que les daban en Time, lo que resultaría en la fundación de Delta. Gelmetti produjo entonces 4 canciones con Leonardi antes de que se fuesen a estudios distintos, Laurent se quedó con Clara en el estudio de Monza, donde siguió con sus producciones.
En 1997, sería su época dorada, momento en el que haría su canción más famosa, "Running In The 90's" de Max Coveri, con la asistencia de Clara Moroni y Pamela Prondoni; y teniendo a Maurizio De Jorio como vocalista. Otras de sus producciones destacables fueron: "Remember Me", "Save Me" y "Killing My Love" de Leslie Parrish, "Don't Stand So Close" de Dr. Love, y "Burning Up For You" de Sara, todas incluidas en el anime Initial D.
En el 2006 formaría un sello paralelo llamado Akyr Music junto con Davide Di Marcantonio, el cual fue descontinuado en el 2008, y sus canciones fueron adquiridas posteriormente por Delta en 2023. Gelmetti dejaría Delta después de disputas con Avex, pero regresó luego en el 2020, donde siguió produciendo hasta su jubilación en 2024.
El 12 de noviembre, 2024, Gelmetti anunció en su página de Facebook, llamada "Italo Dance Mixmaster", su retiro de la industria musical junto con su alias, Laurent Newfield; siendo "Love Is A Killer" de Cherry y "Speed Devil" de Luke sus últimas producciones, dando fin a su carrera de 40 años como productor[1].
