Andrea Leonardi is an Italian Eurobeat producer. He is most famously known under his alias Bratt Sinclaire. He was one of the founders of Delta Music Industry and is the owner of SinclaireStyle. He was also a part of the groups Newfield & Sinclaire, Newfield-Moroni-Sinclaire and Rodgers, Contini & Sinclaire.
Leonardi is one of the most covered Italian musicians in Japan.
Background[]
Andrea was born on April 26th, 1967, to 2 math teacher parents in Milan, growing up in a higher class family. However growing up, he'd come across Elvis Presley's music, and soon in the 1980s he'd start listening to AC/DC, where he describes he was "literally kidnapped by their 6 string call".[1] After studying music theory, he'd drop out of high school to study jazz.
Layout and Other early Music Production[]
In 1984, Andrea would form a hard rock/heavy metal band named "Layout" as his first big step in his musical career, along with Fabrizio Ugolini. This group would mainly perform live, but recorded a 4 track demo tape, with "Rocked By You" being the only one to be professionally recorded and released onto YouTube, and Oh Oh Oh Girls Are Dancing would soon be reworked and covered by The Big Brother. From 1985-1987, he would split his time doing work for both Layout and other bands, such as Alberto Contini's band Bulldozer, having one of his first production credits on their live album "Alive In Poland".
Eurobeat[]
He started in the Eurobeat world as a freelance producer, songwriter and composer for A-Beat-C in 1990, with his first song being a reworked version of "Oh Oh Oh Girls Are Dancing". As discussed on The Stark Truth, when first asked about doing Eurobeat by Alberto Contini, he turned down the offer, saying he primarily was a rock/metal producer, but after listening to some of the songs by Aleph, he would agree. During a phone call with Avex Trax, he was asked if he had an alias, and on the spot he very quickly came up with the name Bratt Sinclaire, deriving from the actor Bret Sinclair from the TV show The Persuaders.
Some of his most known works there are "Tango Tango" by Virginelle, "Radio" by Salt & Pepper, "Walkie Talkie" by Lolita, "TNT" by Derreck Simons, "Tora Tora Tora" by Domino and "Tokyo Tokyo" by D-Essex . Later in 1995, he met Clara Moroni and Laurent Gelmetti and discussed setting up their own label after being unhappy with pay at Time, that's how the three founded Delta Music Industry that year. Leonardi and Gelmetti worked together for four songs: "Money Go!" by Marko Polo, "Lay Your Hands On Me" by Drama, "Round N' Round" by Cherry, and "Because I Feel" by Name. They set up two separate studios, one in Monza and other in Milan, Leonardi stayed in the Milan Studio; while Moroni and Gelmetti stayed in the Monza one. There Leonardi produced many of his most known works: "Yesterday" by Cherry, "Dancing" by Vicky Vale, "Take Me To The Top" by D.Essex, "Love Killer" by Nando, "Night Of Fire" by Niko, "Heartbeat" by Nathalie and "Boom Boom Fire" by D.Essex.
He worked at Delta until some point in 2007, when Moroni would fire Leonardi from Delta due to his bad behavior and the differences he had with the rest of the team, especially with Laurent Gelmetti. Then in 2008, Leonardi founded his own label, SinclaireStyle, and transferred the rights to almost all of the songs he produced, wrote and composed at Delta to his new label. Since then and until today, he is still making music, all produced and written by him.
