- Not to be confused with Black Power (Alias).
"Black Power" is the first song by Fernando Bonini under the alias Maio & Co.. It was released in 1990 on a 12-inch single by Time Records in Italy and later as a Mini-CD Single by Seven Seas in Japan on February 21, 1991. The song made its first album appearance on Aoyama King & Queen Maharaja Saloon Official ~Non Stop~ on March 5, 1991. The song was written by Roberto Arduini, Sergio Dall'Ora, Max Persona, Laurent Gelmetti, Antonio Puntillo, and produced by Giacomo Maiolini.
A remix of the song by I.S.D. titled "Japanese Extended Version", was released on a 12-inch remix vinyl released by Time Records in Italy in 1990. On later releases featuring the remix version it would simply be titled as "I.S.D. Remix".
The song was conceived after a demo of Wild Reputation had leaked to the public somehow, with Laurent Gelmetti making an arrangement using similar instruments. Luigi Raimondi was also involved, going uncredited for unknown reasons. Black Power eventually was released before Wild Reputation, despite being the newer song.
Lyrics[]
[Intro]
Black Power
Black Power
Black Power
Black Power
Black Power
[Verse 1]
It's a blast, when you want to go against the class
And fight to reach a life that you want
They want to forbid you
It's a crime (it's a crime, it's a crime)
Day by day, you became a perfect slave to blame
Don't you think you gave your soul to the king?
What kind of man are you now
[Pre-Chorus]
Lovin' you forever, blowing up my feelings
The light is coming closer
I should be a liar
Breaking all the rules
Can't you see me?
Yeah!
[Chorus]
Black power! Black power!
Fight, don't be afraid to take your freedom
Black power! Black power!
You've got to change the system to survive
[Verse 2]
I can say, now it's time to take another way
Come and try to see the devil in me
The fire is burning
Take a chance!
