Usen 440 Presents Hyper Disco Mix is a 1999 Eurobeat, J-pop, Eurodance, and Techno mixed-compilation album, the first album in the Hyper Disco Mix series. It was released on December 8, 1999, by Avex Trax in Japan. The album is a release of the “Hyper Disco Mix” (C・G-25ch) program broadcasted on the cable radio network USEN440, featuring a variety of songs such as; Eurobeat that were relevant in the ParaPara scene, Techno reminiscent of that played at Juliana's Tokyo, and other popular songs from Avex. The album's DJ mix was done by Akira Yokota, who was also in charge of the nonstop mixing on the actual program. Along with Yokota, Tetsuya Tamura is also credited with mixing, both of whom were credited under Y&Co.

Background[]

Following the closures of Juliana's Tokyo and Azabu Maharaja, two prominent establishments in the disco scene, the last directed Maharaja Discotheque, Yokohama Maharaja, ceased operations in 1998. This marked a significant downturn in the disco culture landscape, particularly for USEN440, which had been actively involved in radio broadcasting from such discotheques. In July 1998, representatives from USEN440 met with Akira Yokota expressing a commitment to revitalize the disco scene. This concept led to the launch of C・G-25ch "HYPER DISCO MIX", a program aimed at reigniting interest in disco music and culture. USEN440 and Yokota were optimistic about the resurgence of disco, believing that it would once again capture the public's interest. And by December 1999, whispers of a third ParaPara boom were starting in Japan. With rumors of that came with the release of the program in an album form, Usen 440 Presents Hyper Disco Mix.[1]
